Beyond the Frostfangs and the Haunted Forest lies a waste of ice and snow that no ranger has crossed and returned to describe. Maps drawn in the south simply stop, and the sailors who have followed the coast report nothing but glaciers and cold sea.

The Others are said to have come out of this country during the Long Night, driving the first winter before them. Free folk speak of it as the source of every ill wind, and even the boldest wildling clans keep well to the south of it.
