North of Winterfell in the thinly settled country of the Gift, a small stone tower stands on an island in a shallow lake, reached by stepping stones set just beneath the surface. The village along the shore was abandoned generations ago.
The place takes its name from Queen Alysanne Targaryen, who lodged there during her progress north, after which the merlons of the tower were gilded to make a crown. Wildlings who slip south of the Wall sometimes shelter in the empty holdfast.
