Perched in the Red Mountains of western Dorne above the passes, this ruined seat commands a long view over the country towards the marches. Its walls have stood empty for many years and the tracks climbing to it are poor.
The name comes from the Vulture Kings, outlaw leaders who twice raised the mountain folk in revolt and used the heights as a base. Dornish and marcher lords broke both risings, and the castle has been left to the wind since.
