Set between Winterfell and the coast, among thick woods south of the Weeping Water, Hornwood commands modest but fertile lands. The Dreadfort lies north-east and the White Knife runs to the east.
House Hornwood holds it, a minor northern house of long standing sworn to the Starks, with a moose for its sigil. Its lords ride with Winterfell when the banners go out, and its lands have long been eyed by stronger neighbours on either side.
