The Vale of Arryn lies on the eastern coast of Westeros, sealed off from the rest of the continent by the Mountains of the Moon. Its only land entrance is the High Road through the Bloody Gate, which has never been taken by force.

House Arryn rules from the Eyrie, a small castle of white stone perched on the shoulder of the Giant's Lance, the tallest mountain in the range. Below it the Gates of the Moon serve as the winter seat.

Explore: The Vale of Arryn

The Vale proper is a fertile crescent of farmland between the mountains and the sea. Gulltown, the region's only city and one of the five in Westeros, sits on the southern coast facing the Bay of Crabs. Runestone of House Royce and Redfort lie along the eastern shore.

North of the Vale the coast breaks into the Fingers, long stony peninsulas reaching into the Narrow Sea; the Three Sisters and the Paps lie in the Bite between the Vale and the North. The mountains themselves are home to hostile clans who prey on travellers on the High Road.

The Vale was settled by the Andals before anywhere else in Westeros, and its knights and lords are proud of their pure Andal blood and their faith in the Seven. The region is prosperous, defensible and often aloof from the wars of the south. The Arryn words are "As High as Honor".
