Occupying a sprawl of buildings on both banks of the Honeywine within Oldtown, the Citadel trains every maester in Westeros. Novices forge a link in their chain for each subject mastered, from healing to ravenry to the higher mysteries.

The Conclave of archmaesters governs the order and chooses the Grand Maester who serves at court. Its library is the largest in the known world, and the maesters it sends out serve castles across the Seven Kingdoms.
